Records of the Wisconsin State Federation of Labor (WSFL), the Wisconsin state affiliate of the American Federation of Labor (AFL) relating to state and national labor issues, labor legislation, and union problems throughout Wisconsin. Some material relates to a 1936 incident in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, in which a law and order group allegedly ran a state labor official out of town, and to resultant discussion on whether to hold the state federation's convention there. Records include Executive Board minutes, 1918-1943; trade and labor conference minutes; weekly organizer reports, 1940-1942, 1946-1950; and expense journals and account books. Pre-publication "confidential" records relating to the Wisconsin Unemployment Compensation Committee of the Wisconsin Industrial Commission include unemployment statistics, legislation, biennial reports, reference material, and correspondence, 1949-1951. Also present are transcripts of hearings from the Wisconsin Employment Relations Board and the Public Service Commission; material on the Milk and Ice Cream Strike, Milwaukee, 1934; a record of 1931 hearings by the Wisconsin Legislative Interim Committee on Unemployment; and a file relating to federation publications. The federation's interest in education is evidenced by proceedings and recommendations of education conferences and committees, information on the National Citizens Committee for the Public Schools, correspondence concerning Labor's League for Political Education, radio scripts of the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance, and miscellaneous speeches, statements, radio addresses, and press releases. Photograph portraits and group images show individuals related to the organization, ca. 1890-1950.
